Sex work (prostitution)

    • Brief

    • Prostitution or sex work means offering sex in exchange for money or other advantages.

    • Prostitution in Nigeria

    • Nigerian law does not legalize commercial sex work. It criminalizes people who run a business where commercial sex can be obtained and the attitude of law enforcement agents is also a problem in the absence of regulation.

In Nigeria, forced prostitution and human trafficking are forbidden by law. Teenage and child prostitution is also forbidden. “Loverboys” or “pimp boys” who seduce girls, start a fake relationship with them and then force them into prostitution, are also forbidden by law.

Some minors (persons under the age of 18) engage in prostitution of their own free will. This is also forbidden.
